What Is A Life Coach?

A professional life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their professional or personal lives. They help clients turn their goals and dreams into reality. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a specific goal, while helping them to take steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way. The objective is not just to achieve the goal, but to enjoy “the journey of the goal” as well! A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist, and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t resolve clinical problems and issues, the main focus is to help you move forward with a new way of planning, believing, thinking, acting, and evaluating (plans, beliefs, thoughts, actions, and evaluations) that will help you achieve your goals.

Online Reviews

Josie S, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 7/6/2018 My son studied guitar with Myles for a year and a half before going to college.  His guitar playing improved immensely.  Myles is a great teacher, and taught my son a lot of technique and theory.   Plus Myles is a genuinely nice person!  He even brought in another guitar player friend to jam and show some blues rock playing techniques as well.  I heartily recommend Melodies for Life and Myles for music students of all levels and ages!

Walter B, Oakland CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/23/2018 I take bass lessons from Myles at Melodies For Life.  I am super thrilled with him a teacher!  He is very patient and has a true gift for teaching music, or anything.  My playing has gotten a lot better because he helps me define my goals and achieve them.  It’s also an added benefit that he can play all the instruments in the band and has them all set up in the studio.  Sometimes he hops on the drums, piano, guitar, and the bass of course.  I highly recommend Myles and the school!

Dmitry P, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/5/2018 Our daughter was enrolled in acoustic guitar lessons at Melodies for Life. Myles was her teacher. He was not just a inspirational, patient and engaging coach for guitar, but cared what was going on with her life, her San Francisco girls chorus and middle school.

He started with the basics but seemed like in a short time she was doing chords and playing songs. He came to her chorus performance and she was thrilled that he taught her the pop songs that interested her. He even came to one of my gigs in Alameda. We still stay in touch! Very thankful and both we and our daughter loved the whole experience. Super grateful!

Daniel B, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/14/2018 Our son has been taking piano lessons for over 2 years with Myles. He is a patient and supportive teacher who really cares about the student's passion for music. Myles goes out of the way to find out what type of music his students like to help encourage a desire to learn music and not just notes. Piano, singing, guitar, drums, and recording services Melodies for Life has a variety of services to help musicians grow no matter how old.

D J, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 7/5/2018 Both of my sons took music lessons from Myles for several years.  Us parents, wanted both of them to take piano. Myles wisely coached us into letting them explore the available instruments.  Our youngest chose piano and oldest chose drums.  Myles is a very talented musician and is incredible with children.  He patiently guides them.  My sons looked forward to their music lessons. He takes a genuine interest in his students. He even showed up to support each of them in local sports games.  Truly above and beyond.

Jelly M, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/10/2018 My six-year-old daughter took piano lessons with Myles for several months. She progressed quite well and really enjoyed coming to lessons and interacting with Myles. The only reason we stopped was because we had to focus on something else for a while, but when it's time to restart lessons, I fully intend to bring my daughter back to him. Myles is warm, patient, and genuinely caring, both as a teacher and as a human being in general.  I highly recommend him.

Amy C, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/11/2018 Myles is wonderful. He tailored guitar lessons by helping our son play sons he liked and wanted to learn. He is supportive and patient.

Allie V, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/18/2018 When looking for a voice teacher in Alameda, a friend of mine recommended Myles to me. She was taking drum lessons at the time, and I couldn't be happier to hear that he also offered voice lessons! Myles is an incredibly kind teacher, and really takes times and effort to get to know his students. Myles and Alicia spent time with me setting goals and working on various audition pieces, and pushed me to sing songs that I didn't know my voice could handle. We worked on technique, style, and emotion which allowed me to prepare for auditions and upcoming performances. One of the things that I like most about Myles is that he is constantly supporting his students, both in and outside of lessons. He even came to come see me perform in a show! I highly recommended Melodies for Life for anyone who is looking to improve or learn a musical skill, whether you are a seasoned singer or learning an instrument for the first time.

Mariah J, San Francisco CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/30/2018 Taking piano lessons with Myles was a great experience, he is patient and kind. Always in good spirits and just a joy to having worked with! Thank you Myles for everything you do!

Jonathan E, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/18/2018 I have been taking guitar lessons for about 2 years, initially with Myles and then with Mike Solan. Both are excellent guitar teachers -- great players in their own right, but also excellent at teaching practical skills and theory, motivating students, and making it fun. If you're looking for great guitar (or drums, piano, or voice) teachers in Alameda, you've come to the right place!

Christine J, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/15/2018 My daughter took guitar from Myles for a year.  He taught at her pace, her level of interest.  Myles is a teacher who encourages and supports his students.  Sometimes, he'd even come to see her acting performances at school.  Such a kind and talented man he is!

Anita O, Oakland CA, 5.0 star rating, 1/23/2018 Myles is awesome! I struggled with my confidence and he encouraged me. Through his patience and kindness I was able to become a better singer. I wanted to sing and work on my voice and I definitely got the help I needed.

Via B, San Francisco CA, 5.0 star rating, 4/3/2018 I've been taking voice lessons at Melodies for Life for almost 2 years now and I'm still loving it. I first started taking lessons with Myles and he is absolutely wonderful. While I had some experience in singing and performing, it had been a couple of years since I sang in front of people and so I was very shy and timid. Myles worked with me to get my confidence up and fine-tune my technique. After a few months, I switched over to taking classes with Alicia Garcia. She is so knowledgeable and such a joy to work with. She pushes me to take on songs that I once thought I could never sing and she also encourages me to perform more regularly. With Alicia and Myles' support, I am now performing more often and a much stronger singer. My weekly lessons are my happy place and I always look forward to my class.

Sammi L, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 7/24/2017 My brother took lessons with Myles for about a year until he decided his work was taking up all his time.  In that year, I saw my brother become increasing confident with his guitar, as a beginner student.  My brother, who has a learning disability, can be timid with new people, but Myles worked very well with him.  When we first met Myles and interacted with him, it felt as though we had known him forever.  Myles' presence exudes the sense of comfort, calm and definitely cool.  It's very clear he is talented in his craft and enjoys it.  I check with my brother every so often to see if he wants to restart lesson, because I hope he does.

Myles is very accommodating and provides materials for practices at home.  He has a nice space with various instruments set up throughout.  His rate is reasonable.  We miss you, Myles and thank you.  Yen & Lee

Jonah S, Oakland CA, 5.0 star rating, 11/10/2017 Myles is wonderful. I came to him looking to learn to sing with no experience and no idea if I could do it. He patiently has taken me through the process of finding my voice, and finding the fun in singing. It's been so enjoyable to learn a new skill and to see real improvement. I look forward to my singing lessons every week because Myles is such a great teacher. And, the price is totally reasonable.

Malou C, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 8/12/2017 My little cousins ages 7 and 10 have been taking weekly drum lessons with Myles and they loved every second of it. He is an exceptionally talented music teacher. He is very patient and warm, and makes every lesson a fun and enjoyable experience. His teaching style is custom-designed to wherever the student is at musically. He knows how to keep the boys interested while being focused on fundamentals of music lessons. What I love about Myles is his ability to make the kids feel "successful" even when they struggle with timing or rhythm at times. I cannot speak highly enough of Myles. He is the man if you or your kids need music lessons (drums, bass, piano, keyboard and voice lessons).

Chris D, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 5/30/2017 Myles is the absolute best. He's a patient and encouraging teacher and, simply, a great guy. He tailored voice lessons to my very specific needs but managed to also maintain a much-needed focus on the basics. He did a great job in helping me develop confidence in developing my project. I can't recommend him enough.

Stephanie C, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 7/28/2016 Myles Darnell is a one-man band with a gentle soul who is encouraging of his students, and very knowledgeable of music. He can teach piano, drums, guitar, bass, and vocals!  I took guitar lessons with him, and found his prices to be very reasonable, if not better than the average going rate.  He is patient, engaging with the lessons, teaches proper technique on how to hold the instrument and position oneself, and encourages without being overly forceful.  I find him to be versatile and have seen his style adapt to a variety of situations...from working with children, teens, and adults...whether you're a first time music student or someone with experience who needs to brush up or learn a new instrument.  I highly recommend him.

Tito V, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 8/30/2016 I highly recommend Melodies for Life to all New or even experienced musicians that want to step up to the next level. Myles is one of the most patient music instructors out there. He has a way of finding away to break down music, rhythm, timing, so you can understand it. He taught me my love for music and drums. Ive had the opportunity myself to play with him in a band at my church for years. He is one of the best and Ive been lucky enough to have him as my teacher and friend over the years. My skills have been sharpened on the drums because of him.

Elizabeth W, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 11/17/2015 Myles has been an amazing coach and teacher! When I first came in, I really wanted to sing and develop my range but I just couldn't get over the fear of my own voice; rather the fear of someone *else* hearing my singing voice. It took over a month of gentle pushing and reassurance before I finally started getting over it. He never became impatient and he never gave up on me, though I feared that he might because I was being so stubborn and resistant. Now I feel much more comfortable singing in front of others and can even laugh it off when I can't quite hit a note that I'm trying to sing. The shame I previously felt around singing is almost entirely gone and I owe that to Myles. He has a knack for making you feel totally at ease and makes every lesson a lot of fun. I had to pause lessons temporarily but I can't wait to pick up where I left off!

Robert L, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 5/5/2016 Myles Darnell is an excellent teacher. He can work with kids of all ages and adults too. He has a great attitude and always has a smile on his face. It is clear that he loves what he does and it shows in how well he works with people. I highly recommend him.

Esra P, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 12/30/2014 I have worked with Myles since 2004 and been grateful for his musical & teaching abilities.  I've taught guitar and piano playing in the past, but now I recommend Myles because he really have a good lesson structure and teaching method.  I've also played music with him for a while now, have a very good musicianship.

He's pretty knowledgeable as a musician. He knows how to relate one instrument to another; very experienced in playing in a band.  And he's a very patient and relational teacher.

Theresa C, San Francisco CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/29/2014 Myles is the salt of the earth. Enormous passion to share and encourage growth. He has vast knowledge in classic tech and hi tech music and engineering. Drums, bass, keys, guitar, singing and song writing etc. His teaching style is as comfortable as a snuggie. I've never known a man to have as much patience and soothing energy as he. Myles has a rare teaching foresight to identify any student’s ability to grow and expand at their own pace and gravitating in the direction that is purely and truly their musical "sound" the signature of every musician. Myles has diligently and passionately shared his gift for all of the 15 years I've known him. I've gone off to have my own reputable and successful music career in San Francisco connecting with all walks of musicians over the planet. I learned how to from Myles. Melodies for life is so much more than music lessons, It's learning to discover what you are truly capable of. Separating ego from creation and finding that inner voice that looks at life through a new pair of eyes. This is about opening doors. This is about speaking in a new dialect. Myles is your kind and generous guide. Thank you my beloved brother in music. Impact is a very small word for your contribution.

Vilma Z, Hayward CA, 5.0 star rating, 11/18/2015 My daughter looooves her teacher Myles! Not only is he experienced in a variety of instruments, he's also a talented teacher who has a gift of connecting with kids. He's genuinely patient and so encouraging to children and he understands their learning capacity. Cost of lessons are reasonable and they allow you to rent out equipment to practice at home with for a fair cost as well. We live 13 miles from the location- and there are plenty of other music businesses closer to home- but my daughter insists on being taught by her favorite teacher, Myles Darnell. Oh- and the man can saaaaang his heart out...beautiful voice!

Brian B, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 4/21/2015 Myles has been a great guitar teacher for my school-age daughter... not only an extremely talented musician, Myles is also a patient and thorough teacher, and a great all-around guy.  My daughter always looks forward to her lessons.

Alicia G, Oakland CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/28/2014 I have worked with Darnell Myles on several occasions.  I have found him to be 100% reliable and professional.  He always shows up prepared.  He has been on time and given 100% effort.

If you are looking for a trustworthy caring professional, look no further.  He is an excellent teacher who cares about people.  His business operates professionally and he is extremely talented.

Hans W, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 4/15/2015 My son went to Melodies for Life to learn to play the drums. He quickly felt comfortable with Myles, who has a very gentle & nurturing manner and is a great teacher. According to my son Myles makes it easy and fun to learn with him. Here are my son's words own about him: "he is always very positive and he is very good at knowing your skill level and how to make you develop at a good pace" I highly recommend Melodies for Life.

Mercedes B, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 5/3/2014 Melodies for Life is awesome!!! I started doing guitar lessons with Myles Darnell; he is such an amazing guitar player, he knows a lot about guitar that makes him a great teacher. A few months after guitar lessons I started doing vocal lessons. My voice before lessons was lacking projection, range and I couldn't really sustain a note for very long. After lessons all of those things improved. It was good, also I had the confidence because of the training to sing on stage which was good!

Leti O, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/19/2014 I grew up taking piano lessons at a young age, learned how to read music, and loved it! After my family hit hard times I couldn't take piano lessons anymore and the lack of practice had me forgetting how to read music. Some years later Myles started teaching me chords and the basics of piano playing which was awesome because my love for the piano runs deep and he pulled that passion out of me when I started playing again. I would recommend Melodies for Life to anyone who is interested in learning an instrument and anyone who already has a history of a specific instrument who just wants to deepen their knowledge. Thank you Myles for all your patience with me throughout the years!!! You are appreciated!! :)

Vanessa B, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 8/29/2013 My son and daughter have taken lessons from Melodies for Life and I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience it has been!  Myles is a patient and intuitive instructor.  He definitely goes the extra mile and genuinely takes an interest in his student's musical endeavors. It is a place to grow and to be inspired!!

Clair D, San Francisco CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/18/2018 My son (8 years old) started taking guitar lessons from Myles about 3 years ago.  I like that Myles offers several different instruments so that as my son's interests changed, he was able to stay with Myles.  Now he takes bass guitar lessons from Myles.   My son can be quite distracted but Myles patiently brings my son's attention back to the lesson.

Alice B, Oakland CA, 5.0 star rating, 3/15/2017 Myles Darnell is an excellent teacher! He is a very patient teacher. Even though it had been years since I had practiced (the piano), he patiently catered each lesson to my learning capability. He encouraged me to practice, and even brought me out of my comfort zone of penning "runs" that I could possibly sing which aided in fine tuning my ear for singing. I would highly recommend his services. You won't be disappointed.

Bruce O, Hayward CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/10/2016 Melodies for life is a great music/life foundation for excelling in all areas of music and voice. Myles Darnell is a personal hands on instructor and great musician who provides a comfortable vibe and enrichment for up and coming musicians. Gina L, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 10/12/2015 Melodies for Life is a wonderful organization. My daughter and I have taken guitar lessons. She was 8 when she started. I can't believe how much I learned in the first few lessons. The instructors are amazing. They work with every skill level. There are also many instruments to choose from. I am thankful for what we are learning. The instructors care about their students and their progress. The lessons are affordable. Thank you Melodies for Life. You rock literally!

Lani C, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 9/19/2015 Myles is an amazingly talented musician who can easily adapt to any music genre, from jazz to worship to hawaiian to contemporary rock or blues to tahitian to country, etc., etc., etc. As well as immediately fitting right into any musical environment, group or gathering, Myles can play just about any musical instrument you put in front of him. Drums, acoustic or bass guitar, piano/keyboards, and more. Add to the mix his vocal talents and composition abilities, and you have the ultimate musical package! His calm and patient demeanor makes him the ultimate vocal or musical instrument instructor. He thoroughly explains each and every part of the instrument and it's vital role for that instrument. Myles has the incredible ability to help the students "become one" with their musical instrument, creating a comfortable and passionate learning environment. I myself am a Performing Arts Director, and have called on Myles on many occasions. Each and every time he has been an integral part of the musical component of our productions. His timeliness, dedication, adaptability to last minute changes, patience and passion, and injections of humor in stressful moments has blessed us and helped us achieve our goals of perfect productions, many of which garnered a standing ovation. Princess S, Norwalk CA, 5.0 star rating, 8/24/2015 Melodies for Life is fantastic.  The teacher is incredibly experienced and gifted and has a unique ability for really being able to connect with others.  Not only has Darnell contributed his musical gifts toward my wedding ceremony, I also got to see him first hand work so patiently with my young children as he gave them their first experience on the drums.  Multi-talented and incredibly caring, I give Darnell and Melodies for life an effortless 5 stars.

Elizabeth B, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 11/11/2014 I have worked with Myles for years.  He was the first one I thought about singing at my wedding.  On that special day he provided outstanding music.  I chose an original song that was written by Myles.  He is a true jewel.  He is very professional and his style is second to none.  I will always use him for all of my events. I have recommended his company to all of my friends.

Cora L, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 8/10/2014 Hi Myles, I thank God for allowing our path to cross each other.  Your knowledge, your patience of teaching makes learning music easy and comfortable. He is a gifted man who loves what he does and it shows. Thank you Myles for all that you have taught me over the years.

Gena B, Alameda CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/18/2014 I wanted to learn the bass guitar and I was searching for a place that would fit my work/life schedule. Myles Darnell was fantastic and formed the lessons around my demanding schedule. He was incredibly patient as I fumbled through my lessons and soon I was playing working my way through the notes on my own!!! I couldn't have been more pleased with what I learned and his teaching style was perfect for me! I recommended him to my friend, she took his classes too (for drums) and loved it! I would recommend melodies for life for anyone with an itch to learn an instrument. :)

Kappe R, Richmond CA, 5.0 star rating, 6/14/2014 I have worked with Myles over the years in a professional capacity and he is an absolute joy to work with. He knows his stuff and is very adaptable with people, situations and environments. I have a huge level of respect for Myles and what he brings to the musician/teacher table. His heart is in it and it is obvious that he is passionate about connecting music with people. Having knowledge is one thing, being able to present it so that it makes sense is the true gift of a teacher.

Nii S, CA, 5.0 star rating, 5/29/2014 Being a good musician does not always guarantee being a good music teacher. Myles Darnell combines both gracefully. His temperament and nurturing approach is wonderful. I have played music with him and seen him coach other musicians.

Myles played bass guitar for a couple of concerts for local Gospel/Inspirational artiste Maame Afon. He brings a great deal of professionalism to his craft, and works well with other musicians on the team. We definitely look forward to working with Myles on future events.

Odgerel Buyanbadrakh, 5.0 star rating, My son has been taking drum lessons with Myles for few months. My son didn’t know about the drum before. We started lessons with him and he loved his teacher and instrument. He is a great teacher and knowledgeable on multiple instruments. He wasn’t just a good teacher, cared about his students, was interesting what else his student likes or talented. My son was an ice hockey player and he always wanted to come over to see him but it didn’t work out because of teacher‘s schedule. He always fully scheduled even on Saturdays. We’d still be taking lessons if we didn’t move! We miss him! Who knows someday we see him again! Thank you, Myles!

Jennifer B, 5.0 star rating, I really enjoyed my experience of taking voice lessons with Myles. Honestly, it was the highlight of my week. He was very encouraging, and gave me great feedback and tips on what I could work on, as I had never had formal lessons before, although I'd been singing and playing instruments for a long time. He really made me feel like I could do something with my voice, and encouraged me to push myself to sing solo in particular venues. Time became too scarce, so I didn't do that yet, and couldn't continue as long I wanted to. But I have hopes of finding time to come back and start up again. Thanks, Myles for all your encouragement and support!

Alex Kim, 5.0 star rating, Myles was very patient and gentle with my 8 year old son, who gets distracted very easily. I really wanted my son to learn how to play piano (because I love it!), but Myles encouraged him to touch, play and feel different instruments and let him choose at the end. My son really enjoyed his lessons with Myles.

Ivory Ivory Gum, 5.0 star rating, Miles you did great job boosting the confidence of my child I would recommend him to work with Anyone. I have referred him to other persons as well

Christian Dubois, 5.0 star rating, Myles is the absolute best. He's a patient and encouraging teacher and, simply, a great guy. He tailored voice lessons to my very specific needs but managed to also maintain a much-needed focus on the basics. He did a great job in helping me develop confidence in developing my project. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Peter Lai, 5.0 star rating, Myles knows it all. At first, I moved to Alameda 2 years ago and I was trying to pick up my guitar again and brush up my skill. I searched online and found that he has good reviews and I gave it a try. Turned out he was very knowledgeable in both skill and theory. Then my church asked for a drummer, although I never picked up a drum stick in my life I volunteered and Myles is a great drumming teacher too. 6 months later I am beginning to serve in my church as a drummer. Bass guitar, voice, guitar, piano, drums you name it he knows it! And if you need a life lesson, he can teach you a thing or two too! Overall a 5-star experience!

Jules C, 5.0 star rating, My pre-teen daughter wanted to take voice lessons but she has some self-confidence and shyness issues. We had a tough time finding the right person to work with her. Within minutes of meeting Myles we knew we found one. His positive energy and clear communications was exactly what she needed and she blossomed. He tailored his instruction to her and it became an experience that I'm sure she'll remember for her life. I feel like we have _all_ gained something from interacting with Myles. Truly an amazing individual.

Stephanie Hipps, 5.0 star rating, I took drum lessons with Myles for about two years and loved it! His teaching style allows you to start playing songs right away AND also work on technical skills. I was able to rent a drum set from him until I bought my own—which he tuned for me. So awesome!!! Myles is so warm, caring, and positive—a great person in addition to being a great teacher. He is an extremely talented musician too, not sure there is an instrument he doesn’t know how to play... I highly recommend Melodies For Life!!

Samiksha Dhakal, 5.0 star rating, This place has a beautiful ambience. Teachers are seasoned. Myles and Mike, both of them are very friendly. They taught me guitar lessons with patience since I was beginner. They motivated me to learn more and more each day. I really enjoyed all of my guitar lessons. I would definitely recommend my friends to join melodies of life for guitar lessons. This place is awesome.

Clair Dunne, 5.0 star rating, My son has been taking lessons with Myles for almost 3 years. What I liked most about Myles' studio/space was that he was able to offer lessons in a variety of instruments. This really appealed to me as this allowed my son to gravitate to an instrument of his choice as his interests changed. My son started out with acoustic guitar, then electric guitar, followed by drums. He has now settled on the bass guitar. My son is easily distracted sometimes but Myles gently and kindly gets him to focus on what he needs to do. He is incredibly patient with my son. Myles has the kids pick their favorite songs and then translates them so that they can begin playing them on their instrument of choice. Myles inspires a love of music and his energy is infectious.

Jenna Miles, 5.0 star rating, My 6 year old daughter took piano lessons from Myles. My daughter has behavior and physical challenges as a result of a stroke she suffered as an infant. Myles was a warm and infinitely patient teacher with genuine caring for his students. I can’t recommend him highly enough. We only stopped lessons because we needed to attend to some of my daughter’s other difficulties for a while. But we will be returning very soon!

Michael Maher, 5.0 star rating, This review is from Mike and Donna Maher. Myles is a kind, caring trustworthy man who loves God and loves people. And it shows! He has worked with my daughter who is intellectually disabled and taught her how to play the guitar. She learned so much! He was so patient and understanding with her. She enjoyed it so much! You can tell he is so passionate and caring about what he does. He is so talented! I highly recommend Myles Darnell! My wife and I are so appreciative! Thank you so much Myles!

Christine Johnson, 5.0 star rating, My daughter took guitar from Myles for a year. He taught at her pace, her level of interest. Myles is a teacher who encourages and supports his students. Sometimes, he'd even come to see her acting performances at school. Such a kind and talented man he is!

Travis Hanna, 5.0 star rating, My daughter and I took voice and drum lessons from Myles for over a year (we'd still be taking lessons if we hadn't moved out of state). Myles is knowledgeable on multiple instruments, patient, and always super positive. He's a great teacher for both kids and adults.

Jonathan Elkin, 5.0 star rating, I have been taking guitar lessons for about 2 years, initially with Myles and then with Mike Solan. Both are excellent guitar teachers -- great players in their own right, but also excellent at teaching practical skills and theory, motivating students, and making it fun. If you're looking for great guitar (or drums, piano, or voice) teachers in Alameda, you've come to the right place!

Cicero Lacaba, 5.0 star rating, I took a vocal lessons from Ptr. Myles few years ago and I loved it. I was a member of our music ministry in our church. The reason I wanted to do the vocal lessons was to improve my vocal skills and a honest opinion. Ptr. Myles made me comfortable and he was so patient. He tried to reach me where I'm at vocally without me feels intimidated. Come as you are and he will help what you need. Thanks a lot Ptr. Myles and I'm forever grateful.

Lina Rubio, 5.0 star rating, I am taking voice lessons with Miles and am so grateful I found him!! He is so kind, supportive, patient and dedicated to his students.

He really makes me work hard to achieve what I want and I like to see my progress and confidence building up each day! Not only is he a teacher but a complete artist. I feel so lucky I found him.

Dmitry Panich, 5.0 star rating, Our daughter was enrolled in acoustic guitar lessons at Melodies for Life. Myles was her teacher. He was not just a good patient and engaging coach for guitar, but cared what was going on with her in chorus and school. He came to her chorus performance and she was thrilled that he taught her the pop songs that interested her. He even came to one of my gigs in Alameda. We still stay in touch! Very thankful and both we and our daughter loved the whole experience. THANK YOU!!!

Katie Sacco, 5.0 star rating, All three of my children studied music with Myles at Melodies For Life. What a fantastic program and accomplished leader for my kids! In addition to taking the time to introduce them to a variety of instruments, Myles also adjusted his teaching choices based on how each of my kids was learning - whether it was asking them to choose a song they wanted to learn, bringing in a playing buddy or letting them try another instrument. Myles is a warm and patient teacher and we are so grateful for his time and talent.

Jenibrows Beauty Studio, 5.0 star rating, My daughter looooves her teacher Myles! Rob Damus, 5.0 star rating, Myles is an amazing teacher. His ability to play almost any instrument allows for a unique experience as a student as he can accompany you to flesh out a song or augment a groove. He has a deep understanding of musical theory that doesn't get in the way of him teaching you how to listen for chord changes or feel out a rhythm. The school is conveniently located and has drums, keyboards, basses, guitars, mandolins, and ukeleles. He also does voice lessons and can sing! And he's a great guy- easy to talk to and learn about life with.

Allie Villa, 5.0 star rating, When looking for a voice teacher in Alameda, a friend of mine recommended Myles to me.

Sara Goldsmith, 5.0 star rating, My son Erik loves going to his drum lessons with Aaron Park at Melodies for Life. Aaron is young and energetic and my son really connects with him. Aaron makes the lesson fun while also teaching important skills. Erik enjoys the experience and wants to keep playing, which is the goal.

Catherine Hallgarth, 5.0 star rating, Our daughters looked forward to their weekly lessons with Myles at Melodies for life. Myles is patient, kind, and genuinely cares about the well being of his students. He has a wonderful ability to connect with his students and his passion for music is contagious and motivating!

Marilou Cipriano, 5.0 star rating, My little cousins ages 7 and 10 have been taking weekly drum lessons with Myles and they loved every second of it.

Kristy Rong, 5.0 star rating, They have good teachers, very friendly and professional. My kid like learning music at melodies for life!!!👍👍👍

Princess Surjopolos, 5.0 star rating, I love Melodies for Life and have known the founder for nearly a lifetime. Darnell provided beautiful musical accompaniment for my Disneyland wedding (both music and vocals) and has a wonderful way of working with both children and adults in the realm of music. 5 Stars and 2 Thumbs Up - he is as good as it gets and you won't be disappointed.

Linda Green, 5.0 star rating, Myles has been my instructor for voice and harmonies since the 90's, and I enjoy learning from him as a professional. He is a multi-talented man who has the patience to teach anyone who wants to grow and perfect their music ear, voice technique or learn how to play an instrument. Elisabeth Senbeta, 5.0 star rating, When we first came we hadn't made up our minds yet about what instruments we wanted to play and Myles Darnell had let us try out all the different instruments (guitar, drums, and piano) to see which one we enjoyed the most. Another thing is that we appreciated so much was that our schedule is pretty full through the whole week and he made it possible so that we could play on the weekends so we could get enough time in our schedule to practice. Something that I liked best about our practices was that we got to practice all our chords and everything but we also get a chance to play different songs and make a collaboration with my siblings and their different instruments. Lastly I appreciate the fact that we were supplied with the instruments by Myles himself. From me and my family we would all like to thank Myles Darnell and Melodies For Life for this opportunity to try something new and learn more about music.

Matthew Blom, 5.0 star rating, I can confidently say that Melodies For Life has made nothing short of a major impact on my life. Darnell is a wonderful human being with a huge heart and a drive to make sure people live a better life. I worked with him for almost a year at the beginning stages of the business and it was a significant opportunity for me to learn, grow and experience the vision that he sees with the company. Being that I had no work experience at the time, he took me under his wing to help run the business. I have since launched a company and helped grow another to become an industry leader due to the principles he instilled in me.

As far as the musical training, he walks his students through the basics and increases the difficulty of the learning stages at a very appropriate rate. All of which is custom tailored to the needs and potential of the student on a personal basis.

I highly recommend Melodies For Life to anyone who is interested in learning an instrument or looking to further enhance their musical capabilities. You will not regret your decision in any way, shape, or form.

Mercedes Baumann, 5.0 star rating, Melodies for Life is awesome!!! I started doing guitar lessons and learned chords and transitions. Myles Darnell is such a seasoned guitar player and singer, and it makes him a great teacher, he is also kind and patient. The other thing I really liked about Melodies for Life is they offer a flexible lesson schedule. A few months after guitar lessons I had some vocal lessons, it turned out so well. Before my vocal lessons my projection was not there at all, I sounded like a mouse. Myles Darnell, helped me to project more and have a bigger voice. He also helped with my notes and gave exercises for my range. I highly recommend Melodies for Life, I definitely had more confidence after the lessons :)

Dee Cee, 5.0 star rating, Myles is a talented and patient teacher with a very positive attitude. Solid understanding of music and plays an array of musical instruments (great singing voice as well). My young grandson enjoyed his lessons very much. Highly recommend Melodies For Life without hesitation for students at any level wanting to grow musically.

Vanessa Barnard, 5.0 star rating, My son has been taking lessons at Melodies for Life for over two years now and it is amazing how far he has come, not only as a drummer, but as a musician. His confidence level has grown so much that he is branching out and trying his hand at other instruments. His instructor at Melodies for Life, Myles Darnell, is the most professional, talented, and positive teacher ever! He has continued to encourage and inspire my son to believe that there are no limits to what he can accomplish!

Gena Batres, 5.0 star rating, I wanted to learn the bass guitar and I was searching for a place that would fit my wrk/life schedule. :)

Steven Kir, 5.0 star rating, Myles has given my son lessons and has ministered in our church. He is very kind, patient, and easy to like. I would recommend his services to anyone desiring to play an instrument.
